With decades in their wake spanning chart successes, touring with icons of the scene and growing an evergreen fanbase, Sydney-hailing rock trio Cog‘s momentum has never waned, withstanding industry shifts, morphing technology, and a hiatus all without ever losing their trademark vigour.

Recently ticking off a largely sold out and extensive Australian tour in 2024, along with releasing some of their material for the first time ever on vinyl, it’s in 2025 that the trio ascend into a brand new chapter, unveiling their first new music since 2019 with a brand new single, Walk The Line, as well as some brand new headline shows for November and December.

Via Walk The Line, the group’s first new song since the propulsive standalone track Drawn Together released six years ago, Cog dazzle with buoyant soundscapes, oscillating guitars, driving drumwork, and fluid basslines alongside the ever-commanding vocal stylings of Flynn Gower.

An immediate Cog classic with its raw yet blissful dynamic shifts, Walk The Line finds the trio — vocalist Flynn, bassist Luke Gower and drummer Lucius Borich — in their most assured form to date, while also brandishing real-world undertones as Cog reflect on the realities of life as a musician in 2025, as well as looking to what may come next.

“Walk The Line expresses it all for us,” shares Flynn. “Life for the three of us is fucking hard at the moment. The three of us individually are struggling to just survive and keep our heads above water. When you look at the work that goes into a song like this alone, the cost and the general lack of return, it’s all becoming almost impossible for us.”

“Almost everyone I know is in the same boat,” Flynn continues, “they’re on struggle street, scratching their heads and wondering how to survive. The microcosm of the music and arts industry in Australia has gotten especially tough, and we’re all feeling the effects of that.”

“As a band, we are working on stuff, we’re working towards other songs. But at this point in time we really don’t know what the future holds, and we don’t know if this will be the last song. And that’s really what Walk The Line is all about at its core.”

Emerging in the late 90s, Cog‘s enduring legacy on the heavy music landscape has traversed decades, global touring, and a jubilant reunion back in 2016. Via their early EPs, 2000s Pseudo, and parts one and two of 2002’s Just Visiting, the behemoth reputation of the Sydney-hailing trio would be firmly cemented in 2005 in the form of their debut full-length, The New Normal. From here, Cog took the world by storm, relentlessly touring Australia, embarking on overseas runs, igniting stages at Big Day Out, Falls Festival and Homebake, alongside adding a stellar second album release to their repertoire in the form of the certified Gold 2008 opus Sharing Space.

Never ones to rest on their laurels, Cog emerged from a five-year hiatus in 2016, with an entirely sold-out comeback tour across Australia that same year – and some new music soon followed in 2018 via the band’s first new material in a decade: The Middle. From here, Cog have continued to expand their creative spirit, releasing two additional singles, Altered States and Drawn Together, while also remaining active on the touring circuit, including headlining The Other Festival and Thrashville in 2023.

Reaching a milestone in 2023, Cog‘s long road to finally releasing their albums on vinyl spanned a 15-year uphill battle, with the group locked into a contract and awaiting resolution ever since delivering Sharing Space to their label in 2008. And finally, armed with complete ownership of the rights to all of their music, the pressing of Cog‘s sonic legacy onto vinyl also sparked a huge headline run in 2024, with the majority of shows sold out.
