“Penny’s Groove” might as well be called “The Crowd-Pleasers”, as their whole approach is aimed at ensuring that the audience will want to come and see them again and again. So Penny & Roo play those ever-popular classic songs in a similar way to the original artist and get the crowd involved, dancing and having a great time.
Lead singer Penny Wilson is only 28 years old but has been gigging for more than a decade. She has a big, wonderful voice, and she can roar as well as pull it back and sing softly and sweetly. She can sing “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” in the same key as Whitney Houston, and she does “Creep” by Radiohead in this beautiful, soft, soulful voice as though she really means it.
Singing is a passion for Penny, and she doesn’t just stand there; she gets physically involved in the song, which people love about her, and they often stop what they are doing, sit up, watch, applaud and go home raving about her.
Roo has been performing professionally around the north coast of New South Wales and Queensland for over 30 years at almost every type of venue and function, and has won 3 (local) “Dolphin Awards”: 2 for Best Male Vocalist and 1 for Most Popular Solo Entertainer.
They perform as an Acoustic Duo and also as a Trio with the addition of drummer Colin, which really strengthens their sound.
You can expect to hear lots of classic female vocal songs plus modern hits by stars like Adele, Lady Gaga, Pink and Katy Perry. Don’t miss them.
