At the end of 2021, a drummer and a bassist answered an ad in a Facebook group and ended up in a
Zoom call with a singer and a guitarist. What sounds like the start of a bad joke is actually the origin story
of Eora four-piece GRXCE. Since coining the tagline “sad music you can dance to,” bandmates Jamila
Grace (vocals & rhythm guitar), Jonathan Amirzaian (lead guitar), Emily Elvish (bass), & Alex Berger
(drums) have entered the Australian music scene in a glorious blaze, landing support from triple j,
Spotify, Apple Music, Rolling Stone, The Music, MTV, and more.
GRXCE take indie-rock to new heights, perfectly curating a blend of toe-tapping melodies alongside gut-
wrenching lyricism that tackles all of the highs and lows of growing up, growing apart, and growing into
yourself. Their debut single, ‘Pretty Boy’, was met with bold but accurate claims that GRXCE is “grunge
pop at its very best” (Backseat Mafia). With their follow-up tracks ‘Family Tradition’ and ‘Wasted on
You’ ranking as the 5th and 4th most playlisted tracks in their release week respectively, it is clear why
GRXCE are on an uphill momentum that no-one can slow down.
Following on from a sold-out debut headline show at Factory Theatre, GRXCE started 2023 by
conquering an 18-date debut tour across NSW which featured big name support slots with The Terrys,
Lola Scott, CLEWS, & Surf Trash just to name a few. Despite this huge run of shows, GRXCE took no
time to rest, charging forward to play alongside The Rions, Sly Withers, Adam Newling, Bec Stevens,
Kitschen Boy & Hallie in the months following, as well as joining forces with Fellr & Philter for an
exclusive backyard acoustic show and Heaps Normal for a band on band interview series.
With comparisons to contemporary heavy hitters such as Tommy Lefroy, The Buoys and Holly
Humberstone, GRXCE are set for a bright future ahead. Ramping up to the release of their debut body
of work in 2024 which is accompanied by their self-produced short film that sold-out Sydney’s iconic
Ritz Cinema the dynamic four-piece has already added Pacific Avenue, Beddy Rays and The Rubens
to their touring belt and smashing goals with the first single from the EP ‘Gravel Rash’ landing seven
Apple editorial playlists. GRXCE is not only one of the most exciting Australian bands to launch onto
the local scene but also a visionary working to engage audiences through multiple creative mediums and
engaging narratives. Enter the world of GRXCE; breathtaking, whimsical and emotional vulnerability
wrapped up in a carefully curated package.
