Dan Hannaford tells the truth, his songs captivate with quirkily crafted lyrics and his country tinged, blues – laced, rock ‘n roll swagger is the likes of which are few and far between on our current music scene.
May 2015 saw Dan Hannaford release his debut studio album “I Cried Bullets” recorded in Los Angeles & produced by renowned drummer David Raven. The record is tinged with a who’s who of seasoned session players, some who have played or recorded with the likes of Keith Richards, Norah Jones, Carol King, Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder to name but a few.
Dan kicked off 2015 playing on New Years Day at the Byron Bay Falls Festival as winner of the ‘Play Mullum & Falls Festival’ song competition for his track from the album ‘Payday’. Lead single ‘Lay Down Your Guns’ had the accompanying film clip officially selected to premiere at Byron Bay’s 2015 International Film Festival. Dan was then chosen to open for Grammy award winning blues artist Charlie Musselwhite on his February 2015 Australian tour.
Dan has previously opened Australian tour shows for the likes of America’s Donavon Frankenreiter and Charlie Parr and also Australian icons such as Tex Perkins, Pete Murray, Black Sorrows and Mental as Anything. Hannaford has also showcased his talent at Australia’s premier Byron Bay Blues Festival being named on the bill alongside John Fogerty, Cold Chisel and Crosby Stills & Nash with his single ‘Deeper Water’ included on the Bluesfest 2012 compilation album.
Dan’s first independent release Rust and Dust (2012) was recorded at the Hannaford family fishing shack, ‘Hannarock’, in Red Rock on the NSW North Coast with blues/folk musician and producer, Mike McCarthy. It featured as album of the week on ABC Radio and their collaboration single ‘I’ve Gone Fishing’ also received major airplay on ABC Radio’s fishing show, ‘The Big Fish’.
Dan Hannaford’s musical career began when he played on a Channel [V] music showcase in 2009 where he was spotted by record industry legend Seymour Stein who requested a demo. This led to the recording of the ‘Bootleg’ EP/demo in 2010.
Since then Dan Hannaford has been busy playing hundreds of stages all around Australia, including Australian Blues Festival, Gympie Country Muster, National Folk Festival and Tamworth Country Music Festival. 2015 he toured to Europe to perform at The Summertime Blues Festival in Austria.
